Counseling and Consultation

About

About Me

I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, National Certified Addiction Counselor and Substance Abuse Professional and have worked in the addiction field since 2008. Having been called to this work from my own experience of finding freedom from addiction, I have been honored to help others find real help and healing. My specialization is working with families seeking help for themselves and their loved one battling addiction.

I received my initial clinical training working as a primary counselor at La Hacienda Treatment Center for over five years. I had the privilege of working alongside some of the best this field has had. From there I returned back to San Antonio to pursue a vision of building a successful Collegiate Recovery Program at UTSA - my alma matter. I then had the opportunity to work with  families effected by addiction as the Wellness Coordinator for Alamo Heights Independent School District. Following this time I have worked for several non-profit and for profit treatment centers, overseen community relations and admissions, facilitated structured family interventions and provided consultation work for healthcare providers and several professional businesses.

I have also completed training in biblical counseling and utilize these strength as patients desire. My wife and I are active members at Crossway Bible Church in San Antonio and we have two young children.

I have certifications in:

Addiction Counseling

Drug and Alcohol addiction is a complex illness of the body, mind and spirit. When someone "learns" and has come to believe that a substance is the solution for them it can create a crippling problem for them and those who love them. Thankfully once one has been given the opportunity to regain physical well-being, clearer thinking and a reorientation of the spirit, the same person who was enslaved to addiction can find real health and freedom. The goal of any quality counselor should be the elimination of professional services and the establishment by the patient of a healthy support system. Short term counseling with an appropriate treatment plan can be most helpful for many patients. Start with a clinical assessment to determine your next steps!

Clinical Intervention

Definition: The act of interfering with the outcome or course especially of a condition or process (as to prevent harm or improve functioning). A successful structured family intervention entails a great deal of planning, forming the right team and executing it for entry to treatment and aftercare. Choose a clinical intervention if you are concerned about this, there is a history of non-compliance or other people are in harms way.

Foundations for Recovery

My specific goal is to help families affected by addiction find quality care in line with their values and beliefs. To feel comfortable and confident that their loved one is receiving quality care with a program I would send my family or friend to. I will work with you to make appropriate recommendations and help facilitate the process of getting into treatment, counseling or recovery. This can include:

Coordinating with your loved one's counselor or treatment program

Scheduling and coordinating with Psychiatrists, Addiction Medicine Doctors, Outpatient Treatment Programs, Sober Livings

Developing a personal recovery plan with recommended 12 step meetings, fellowship, personal assignments

Assisting the family accessing 12 step recovery support and family counseling

Facilitating Structured Family Recovery sessions

Presentations
Educational Workshops/Trainings

I will partner with your church, organization or group to speak to your desired audience about the elements of addiction and how to care for those affected by it. These presentations may range from prevention to early intervention to soul care for the suffering Christian. I have extensive experience buidling effective presentations for the appropriate audience sharing a unique perspective from my work in the field of chemical dependency and personal experience.

There is tremendous value in understanding the nature of addiction and its impact on those we love. It is a false assumption to think there is nothing one can do unless an addict "wants help" or has "hit bottom". We have all be entrusted to care for those around us. I will work with your staff to implement a comprehensive training on how to care for those affected by  addiction.
